Frequently Asked Questions
What is Juvéderm®?
Juvéderm® is a hyaluronic acid compound used as a dermal filler. Juvéderm® has been approved by the FDA for use in cosmetic treatments of fine facial wrinkles and folds. Treatment with Juvéderm® can smooth out folds and wrinkles, add volume to the lips, and contour facial features that have lost their fullness due to aging, sun exposure, illness, etc. Facial rejuventation can be carried out with minimal complications.
What does Juvéderm® do?
Juvéderm® will help to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm® is injected into the skin with a very fine needle. The product produces a natural volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. The results can often be seen immediately. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing.
What is Juvéderm® indicated for?
Juvéderm® is indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of skin) for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases running from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth, aka smile lines or parentheses).
How is Juvéderm® used in treatment?
Juvéderm® is injected into the skin using a fine needle to temporarily fill in and augment the treatment area and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as smile lines (nasolabial folds) and marionette lines below the ends of the lips.
How long does treatment usually take?
The injection process generally takes only about 15 minutes. You'll also need to allow time to consult with your doctor prior to treatment. Pre-treatment with numbing medications can take up to 30 minutes.
Does the correction last forever?
Correction is temporary. Multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve desired results. Touch up treatments may be necessary to maintain desired results. Most patients see results that last for approximately one year. Individual results vary.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in all mammals that helps to hydrate and add volume to your skin. In addition to its use as an aesthetic treatment, hyaluronic acid has also been used for more than 20 years for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement as well as for eye surgeries and wound repair.
Why does Juvéderm® come in two formulations?
Juvéderm® is available in two formulations to allow your healthcare professional to tailor treatment to your unique needs. Juvéderm® Ultra provides versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is a more robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles.
Is treatment with Juvéderm® painful?
Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. The smooth consistency gel of Juvéderm® allows your doctor to administer it easily and smoothly. And, Juvéderm® is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. Your doctor may choose to numb the treatment area with a topical cream or injection to further minimize discomfort.
What are the possible side effects of Juvéderm®?
Treating wrinkles with Juvéderm® is fast and safe and leaves no scars or other traces on the face. Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (seven days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures there is a risk of infection. People with a history of cold sores may experience a recurrence after the treatment, although this can be minimized by the use of antiviral medicines.
What makes Juvéderm® different from other dermal fillers?
Juvéderm® is the only hyaluronic acid filler FDA approved to last up to one year after initial treatment. The manufacturing process provides a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results. It also works to create a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel. All other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels. And, Juvéderm® is the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Studies with Juvéderm® showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.

Juvéderm Aftercare Instructions
Instructions on what to do after a Juvéderm treatment.

My co-worker recommended Dr. Alex, and he is GREAT!!! I have been seeing him for almost a year now and my skin looks amazing! He takes care of everything from laser treatments to botox, and on Mondays the price per unit of botox goes down $2.00. It's nice dealing with an actual doctor when it comes to these kind of needs, rather then a nurse. He is always professional and kind, and really takes his time with his patients!!!!! He also works with my schedule, and will stay late or come on the weekends if need be, he will also come to you should you really need it :)
