Dr. Alex attended the 73rd annual conference of the American Academy of Dermatology March 19-24, 2015 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA. This is a large conference with of 10,000 people in attendance where dermatologists from all over the world come to learn about what is new in dermatology. There are hundreds of lectures starting at 7 AM every day as well as many ancillary events sponsored by various companies. Dr. Alex attended many courses and learned about cosmetics, treatment of melasma, fractional lasers, treatment of acne scars, chemical peels, injectables, and treatment of those with darker skin types. The exhibit hall featured various companies from pharmaceutical companies to laser manufacturers to skin care lines. This year there were so many exhibitors that the exhibition was expanded to halls in three different buildings. Some of the new investments that A E Skin made there included new, more comfortable eye shields for laser treatments and custom ice packs for Botox, Juvederm, Restylane, and Voluma treatments. In the evenings Dr. Alex attended lectures sponsored by In Mode lasers, Allergan (makers of Botox, Juvederm, Latisse, and Voluma), Sciton lasers, Cool Sculpting, and Fotona lasers. Throughout the conference Dr. Alex caught up with old friends and colleagues from around the country. It was a busy and exhausting, yet most enjoyable and valueable trip. Dr. Alex will be speaking at the 2015 Aesthetic Show in Las Vegas in July 2015, another outstanding conference and looks forward to the American Academy of Dermatology conference next year in Washington, DC.
Lasers can be used to treat bruising after cosmetic treatments. They are not only for wrinkles and age spots. Let's be honest, everyone wants to look better, more youthful. This is commonly achieved with various injectable treatments such as Botox, Juvederm, and Voluma. However, a lot of the time we see bruising after these treatments. Is it common? It depends. For example with neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin bruising is infrequent. But with fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Voluma bruising is more common. This is because with filler treatments such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Voluma the needle is larger and travels further and deeper in the skin, increasing the likelihood of hitting a blood vessel. Also certain areas such as under the eyes are rich with blood vessels and bruising is more common in these areas. And some people are more prone to bruising than others. It is important to understand that bruising is a side effect that we should expect, not get upset about. This is because the blood vessels in the skin are microscopic and even the best injectors cannot see them when doing Botox, Juvederm, and Voluma treatments. Applying pressure and ice packs right after the Botox, Juvederm, or Voluma treatment will minimize bruising. Preparing the skin by pre-cooling it with cold air or ice packs decreases the risk for bruising during a treatment. Cold air also minimizes pain and bleeding as seen in this Botox demonstration. The good news is that you can usually cover it up with makeup and it is temporary and the bruise will go away on its own. But if you want a fast fix, the bruise can be treated with a laser. This is a fast and simple treatment with a laser that makes the bruise go away faster. The laser works just like those for leg veins because the target is blood. Often times the bruise gets darker before it gets lighter, this is normal. But it will go away faster. At A E Skin we offer complimentary laser treatments for bruises after any injectable treatment, no appointment necessary. Contact us to schedule an appointment with Dr. Alex.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Alex Eshaghian will be speaking at The Aesthetic Show 2015. The Aesthetic Show is an annual conference held in Las Vegas, NV hosting thousands of participants involved in cosmetic medicine. Dr. Alex has attended this conference annually for several years and learns new things every year. The Aesthetic Show features international experts who speak on a variety of topics. Dr. Alex's talk will be on combining skin care products and treatments to treat chronic problems. Dr. Alex is honored to speak at this conference and the invitation to speak is a testament to A E Skin's success in treating these conditions. Dr. Alex has seen that combining a full range of skin care products including sunscreen, brightening agents, retinoids, exfoliants, antioxidants, hydrating agents, and moisturizers with multiple treatments provides the best results. One of the most popular combination treatments is the Soft and Smooth Rejuvenation, a treatment designed by Dr. Alex to treat various signs of aging. Another popular treatment is the Ultimate Rejuvenation, which adds a fractional laser to address deeper wrinkles. The newest combination Dr. Alex is using is Voluma and Ultherapy, to address signs of aging such as smile lines, jowls, and loose skin by treating the source. This combination provides volume to the mid face and stimulates collagen to tighten the skin, working as a non-surgical facelift. The Aesthetic Show also features a large exhibit hall with various companies such as lasers and other energy based devices, skin care products, and marketing resources. The highlight of the conference is the Aesthetic Award ceremony, which recognizes the works of various practices nationally and internationally. A E Skin has been nominated for Best Aesthetic Practice 2015 for the third year in a row and won the honor last year. Click here to vote for A E Skin. Dr. Alex will be attending The Aesthetic Show 2015 with his staff and we could not be more excited.
When treating chronic conditions associated with aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, redness, and sundamage it is important to continue maintenance with a good skin care regimen and regular treatments. The reason for this is that chronic conditions are just that, chronic. Unlike the common cold where you can take an antibiotic and it's gone, these conditions are ongoing. They occur due to various insults, but mainly the sun. And since we are getting sun exposure every day, we accumulate this damage of time and it needs to be addressed. Additionally, in melasma, the condition is due to an imbalance of hormones on the inside, so no matter what we do for the skin the problem will return and maintenance will be required. The most important aspect for maintenance is a good sunscreen such as the Elta MD UV Clear, UV Physical, and UV Daily or the MD Solar Mineral Tinted Creme with a minimum SPF of 30 and UVA and UVB protection. Other products that help include brightening creams, exfoliants, antioxidants, hydrating products, and moisturizers. In terms of treatments, whether it is a facial, microdermabrasion, chemical peel, laser treatment, or other treatment, most people start with an initial series of three to six treatments every four to eight weeks. After that, maintenance treatments are done every three to six months. Contact us if it is time for a maintenance treatment to schedule an appointment with Dr. Alex.
For the third year in a row, A E Skin has been nominated for the Best Aesthetic Practice, a prestigious national award given by The Aesthetic Show each year. This award "recognizes the outstanding efforts of a team to build and grow an exceptional aesthetic practice." A E Skin was honored to win the award last year among fierce competition by some of the best practices around the nation. The winner is determined by public vote, making this award unique and special because it is determined by the patients. We are so grateful to our patients because they consistently provide valuable feedback on aspects they enjoy such as service as well as suggestions for improvement. Some of the suggestions we have implemented include validating parking and making our paperwork available online so it can be completed prior to an appointment. Another change we are currently working to implement is creating a system to schedule appointments online without calling the office. This is to make things easier for our patients.
