The Illuminating Cream is the newest product in the A E Skin line and is designed by Dr. Alex to include five anti-aging ingredients for those with sensitive skin. It is supplied in a pump tube just like the A E Skin Brightening Cream and is applied to a clean, dry skin surface at night. Moisturizers can be applied immediately afterwards. The A E Skin Illuminating Cream comes in a 30 gram supply, which lasts anywhere from one to three months depending on how much is used. The A E Skin Illuminating Cream should be stopped a few days before and a few days after any type of treatment on the skin such as a facial, chemical peel, or laser treatment. It is safe to continue using the product before and after injectable treatments such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Voluma. The ingredients and benefits are described individually below.
Hydroquinone is the strongest topical brightening agent we have. Hydroquinone directly inhibits the formation of the pigment melanin, which is what is found in freckles, sun spots, age spots, sun damage, uneven skin tone, and pigmentation seen in melasma and in acne scars. Hydroquinone is found naturally in various foods and drinks such as coffee, bean, and vegetables, so people eat it all the time. The 2% concentration of hydroquinone in the new A E Skin Illuminating Cream is over-the-counter strength and ideal for people who are sensitive to the prescription-strength versions of the product (usually 4%) such as that in the A E Skin Brightening Cream (6%). There has been some controversy over the use of hydroquinone as it has been banned in certain European countries. The reason for this is that the sources of hydroquinone in Europe are often contaminated with mercury, which can irritate and damage the skin. It is therefore important to ensure that the hydroquinone is pure and manufactured in the United States as in the A E Skin Brightening Cream and Illuminating Cream.
Kojic acid is another brightening agent that works by a different mechanism than hydroquinone to prevent pigment formation. Kojic acid is not as irritating as other products such as hydroquinone and retin-A so it is an ideal ingredient for those with sensitive skin. Kojic acid also acts as an antioxidant (similar to vitamin C) to prevent formation of free radicals which damage the skin and lead to signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, kojic acid has anti-bacterial properties and can be used to supplement other products to kill bacteria associated with acne. Kojic acid is derived from mushrooms and is also a byproduct of the fermentation process used to manufacture the Japanese wine sake.
Arbutin is yet another brightening agent that works to inhibit melanin production. Derived from the bearberry plant, arbutin is released slowly and is therefore less irritating that other brightening agents, again making is suitable for those with sensitive skin. Arbutin is also found naturally in wheat, cranberry, mulberry, blueberry, and pear skin. Arbutin is similar to hydroquinone in terms of its chemical composition, the difference being that arbutin is attached to a sugar. An important benefit of arbutin over other brightening agents is that is does not oxidize, which can make the ingredient ineffective.
Azelaic acid is a product that provides multiple benefits including decreasing pigmentation and inflammation. It also has antibacterial and antioxidant properties which make it effective for those with acne or rosacea as well as for those who want anti-aging effects. Derived from certain species of grain such as rye, wheat, and barley, azelaic acid is safe for all skin types and reduces irritation that many people with rosacea or sensitive skin get. The addition of azelaic acid to the A E Skin Illuminating Cream provides further benefit to reduce discoloration, to decrease irritation, and to fight acne for those suffering from it. Azelaic acid can be used alone at higher concentrations (15-20%) for the treatment of rosacea in products such as Finacea and Azelex. For these reasons azelaic acid is also found in the A E Skin Acne Max Solution.
Retinol, like retin-A, is a vitamin A derivative that has multiple effects on the skin. As we age the skin cell turnover rate slows down, which leads to the buildup of dead skin cells on the surface. This is seen as a rough texture and a dull appearance due to the way light is irregularly reflected off the skin. These dead skin cells can also clog pores and lead to acne breakouts. Retinol will stimulate cell turnover like that of youthful and healthy skin, getting rid of these dead skin cells to provide a soft and smooth texture and a bright and radiant appearance. Retinol will also help with acne breakouts because it removes the dead skins cells which clog pores and lead to breakouts. Retinol also stimulates the formation of new, fresh, and healthy collagen in the skin. Collagen is the natural protein in the skin that provides the skin with a tight appearance. As we age, we lose collagen and the skin becomes loose, wrinkled, and saggy. By stimulating collagen retinol will restore the youthful appearance to the skin. These benefits are the reasons why you see retinol in so many anti-aging products available in retail stores and online. Unlike its cousin retin-A (found in the A E Skin Brightening Cream), retinol is a lot less irritating to the skin, making this ingredient perfect for those with sensitive skin.
The A E Skin Illuminating Cream is even more effective when combined with other products such as salicylic acid found in the A E Skin Exfoliating Serum, antioxidants found in the A E Skin Triple Antioxidant Serum, and hyaluronic acid found in the A E Skin Hydrating Serum. With all of these benefits all in one product it is no wonder that the A E Skin Illuminating Cream is so popular. For a limited time we are offering 25% off the A E Skin Illuminating Cream. At A E Skin patient satisfaction is a top priority and we are always trying to improve. We continually request feedback from our patients and make changes to all aspects of our service based on this feedback. The most recent update is our Brightening Cream. The A E Skin Brightening Cream is our most popular product and we have made improvements to make it better than ever. The Brightening Cream is a powerful combination of multiple prescription-strength ingredients for overall rejuvenation of the skin. Containing two brightening ingredients (hydroquinone and kojic acid) the Brightening Cream is highly effective for addressing dark spots, sun spots, uneven color, and melasma. At the same time the retin-A stimulates cell turnover, removing dead skin cells from the surface to provide a soft smooth texture and a bright, glowing, and radiant appearance. For this reason the Brightening Cream is also a great product for acne. Additionally, the retin-A stimulates collagen production. Collagen is the protein in the skin responsible for maintaining a firm and tight appearance. As we age we lose the collagen in our skin. By stimulating the skin to naturally produce collagen, the Brightening Cream will help with fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and enlarged pores. It is used once daily at night and helps give you improved results and decreases the risk of side effects when combined with chemical peels or laser treatments such as the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial, Micro Laser Peel, Laser Skin Tightening, Pro Fractional Therapy, Soft and Smooth Rejuvenation, Tight and Bright Rejuvenation, Fountain of Youth Rejuvenation, Weekend Rejuvenation, and Ultimate Rejuvenation. The collagen boost complements treatments such as Botox, Voluma, Juvederm, Restylane, and Ultherapy and products such as the NuFace Trinity Pro. The Brightening Cream has been the centerpiece of the A E Skin line of product for five years. Our supplier stopped making it approximately one year ago and we used other suppliers. The active ingredients have been identical so the results have continued to be outstanding. But our patients provided valuable feedback in terms of the tube and consistency of the cream base. We have now refined the product with an easy to use pump tube and a comfortable and effective cream base. We are excited to be able to constantly improve our products and services. We are currently working on a new product, the Illuminating Cream, which should be available in the near future. The Illuminating Cream is a blend of five different anti-aging ingredients and is designed as an alternative to the Brightening Cream for people that get irritation. What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is the new non-surgical facelift alternative now available at A E Skin.
How does Ultherapy work?
Ultherapy works using ultrasound technology, the same technology used to visualize the bellies of expectant mothers. But with Ultherapy there are three beams of ultrasound: one to visualize the skin and two more to focus the energy. The ultrasound in Ultherapy is used to deliver focused and targeted energy to form new, fresh, and healthy collagen in the deeper layers of the skin. Because the ultrasound gives Dr. Alex the ability to see the layers of the skin, he is able to target different layers of skin without affecting the surface layers. These are the same layers of the skin that are treated with a surgical facelift, but instead of putting a big surgical bandage on the skin as in surgery, with Ultherapy we stimulate the body to naturally produce collagen, so you never get a result that looks unnatural. Most people do only one Ultherapy treatment. Results of an Ultherapy treatment are seen approximately three to six months after the treatment and most people enjoy their Ultherapy results for a few years. Recovery after an Ultherapy treatment is usually very easy; most people resume their normal activities right away.
What is an Ultherapy transducer?
The transducer on the Ultherapy device is the part of the handpiece that makes contact with the skin. Importantly, Ultherapy transducers allow Dr. Alex to target the ultrasound energy at different depths in the skin. There are three depths available: 4.5 mm, 3.0 mm, and 1.5 mm. The 1.5 mm transducer is optional for most areas that are treated.
What areas can be treated with Ultherapy?
Ultherapy can be used to tighten the skin anywhere from the forehead down to the upper chest. Trials are underway to test the safety and efficacy of Ultherapy in other areas. Dr. Alex recommends having an Ultherapy treatment on one or two areas at a time. This is because the treatment involves a lot including numbing for one hour, taking medications to keep you comfortable, and the ultrasound pulses itself. Areas include forehead (brow lift), crows feet (around the eyes), under-eyes, cheeks, lips, under the jaw (submental), lower neck, and chest.
Is Ultherapy the same in all offices?
This is a very common myth. Just because a certain office offers the Ultherapy technology does not mean the treatment and results are the same. Just like a haircut, it depends who is doing it. All hair stylists have scissors, but some are clearly better than others. Similarly, with Ultherapy, the person doing the treatment is an important factor. Is it a doctor, nurse, technician, assistant? What is the level of experience and expertise of the person doing the Ultherapy treatment? Does the person doing the Ultherapy treatment use basic techniques or more advanced techniques? Is the person familiar with the aesthetics of the face? Does the person do other aesthetic treatments such as Botox, Juvederm, Restylane, Voluma, and laser treatments? At A E Skin, Dr. Alex performs all of the Ultherapy treatments himself. He has years of experience in cosmetics and has performed thousands of cosmetic treatments with many satisfied patients.
What is special about Dr. Alex's Ultherapy technique?
After being trained on Ultherapy by experts, Dr. Alex has used his expertise in cosmetics and laser surgery to make certain modifications when performing an Ultherapy treatment. First, Dr. Alex uses higher Ultherapy energy settings when doing the treatment. There are generally four Ultherapy energy settings with the default level of 2. Dr. Alex uses level 4 if the patient tolerates it. Most patients tolerate this Ultherapy setting because we numb the skin for one hour and provide medications to make our patients comfortable. Second, Dr. Alex always adds the optional 1.5 mm Ultherapy transducer because this focuses the energy in the surface layers of the skin as well as the deeper layers. With these modifications we have found that patients get better Ultherapy results. This type of Ultherapy treatment involves more time and more pulses of energy, and since the pricing depends on the number of pulses, the investment is slightly more. But the Ultherapy results you get at A E Skin make the investment worth it.
When can I have my Ultherapy treatment?
There is always change and improvement at A E Skin and a lot of things to look forward to in 2016. Looking back at 2015 we have made a number of changes which have led to improvements for our patients. We have redesigned our treatment room and lounge to provide you with the best service. In our new lounge we offer light refreshments our patients can enjoy while relaxing as well as videos and informational brochures about the products and services we offer. The new treatment room is larger, brighter, and more relaxing with a homey feel. We have learned that our patients love their Botox treatments and we have made changes to our Botox Bonanza events. We are now having a Botox Bonanza once per month instead of every three months. This allows people for whom Botox lasts longer than three months to come in. We have added a contest at each Botox Bonanza event. Patients have a chance to win 20 units of free Botox at their next appointment by guessing how many vials we have in our jar. At our Botox Bonanza events we also offer special pricing, free lunch from Nuts N Berries Cafe, and 10% off on all products. Our next Botox Bonanza will be held on Tuesday January 19, 2016. Click here to join our e-mail list to receive all of our exclusive specials. In addition to Botox we are continuing to offer our popular injectables including Voluma, Juvéderm, and Restylane. Get ready for Valentine's Day during filler February when we will be offering exclusive specials on all of our fillers. Additionally, we will be offering a new injectable treatment called Kybella which treats neck fullness such as a double chin. Kybella also tightens the skin on the neck and improves jawline definition. In 2015 our Ultherapy treatments, the non-surgical facelift alternative, was so popular that we are now making it available more frequently. We will have Ultherapy available every Monday. Also, with Dr. Alex has modified his Ultherapy technique for best results. This includes using more pulses and higher settings to achieve the best outcomes; patients are loving their results. In 2015 we added a few new products including the iS Clinical Active Serum, a natural blend of botanical ingredients to treat aging, dark spots, and acne, and the Elta MD Moisture Rich Body Crème. In 2016 we will launch Dr. Alex's newest addition to the A E Skin line, the Illuminating Cream. The Illuminating Cream is a variation on the Brightening Cream designed for sensitive skin and containing additional ingredients such as vitamin C to rejuvenate your skin. In terms of laser treatments Dr. Alex designed the Tight and Bright Rejuvenation and the Fountain of Youth Rejuvenation. The Tight and Bright Rejuvenation treatment has become one our most popular treatments; it combines a Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial treatment with a Laser Skin Tightening treatment. The Fountain of Youth Rejuvenation treatment combines a Laser Skin Tightening treatment with a light Pro Fractional Therapy treatment to stimulate collagen in the surface and deep layers of the skin with about three days of recovery time. We had such a great year in 2015 and are so excited to see what 2016 has in store for us. Thank you to all of our valued patients. Contact us for a free consultation with Dr. Alex.
