Best Dressed Red CarpetWe had a great time at our annual Summer Soiree on Thursday June 23, 2016 in our office. It was a wonderful opportunity for new and returning patients to visit our office in a relaxed setting and learn about the many products and services we offer. We had refreshments generously provided by Allergan, makers of Botox, Juvederm, Voluma, and Kybella. Our guests were able to take advantage of our one-night-only exclusive specials on all products and services including BotoxJuvederm, Restylane, Voluma, and Kybella. Each guest received a gift bag with goodies and we raffled off prizes at the end. We were delighted to again have a packed house.

At this event we were excited to launch our new luxury skin care line, the A E Skin Green Tea Essentials. We have three products in the A E Skin Green Tea Essentials line: the A E Skin Green Tea Awakening Facial Cleanser, the A E Skin Green Tea Nourishing Moisturizer, and the A E Skin Green Tea Enlightening Eye Cream. All of these products contain green tea extract, a potent antioxidant and an outstanding ingredient for anti-aging.

We received generous support from Allergan (makers of Botox, Juvederm, Voluma, and Kybella), Skin Medica (makers of TNS Essential Serum and Latisse), and Alastin (makers of the Skin Nectar). Photography on the Red Carpet was done by Sanaz Photography and patients had opportunities to do video testimonials. We had the pleasure of having three special guests: Jayde Nicole, Shae Wilbur, and Deniz from Le Fashion Monster. The highlight of the evening was our raffle and best dressed contest. We raffled off over one thousand dollars in products and services including our new Green Tea Essentials. We also hed our popular Botox vial contest; each guest guesses the number of Botox vials in the container and the one with the closest guess wins 20 units of Botox. We had four beautiful contestants in our best dressed contest. The winner, Deniz, will receive a free Ultimate Rejuveantion treatment ($2,300 value). We had such a great time and look forward to our Red Carpet Event in the fall.

Previously, Botox injections were predominantly only used for cosmetic purposes. However, this procedure has shown to have a variety of other benefits as well. Here are a few ways botox treatments from Dr. Alex Eshaghian, MD, can benefit you:Botox

1. Eliminate wrinkles:

Eliminating wrinkles, in-particular around the eyes, was originally the main use of botox. A few injections will alleviate the tightening of muscles in the area, in-turn relieving the skin and getting rid of wrinkles.

2. Reduce migraines:

Migraines can be caused by a number of different factors. One major cause is knots and blockages inside the muscles. Botox treatments in the affected areas can get rid of these knots, which can reduce the occurrence of chronic headaches and migraines.

3. Reduce muscle spasms/pain:

As with migraines, patients experiencing muscle spasms, cramps, and pain can also benefit from botox treatments in Encino. Injections into target muscles block the signals that cause unnecessary tightening in muscles. Botox can even alleviate chronic muscle pain with regular treatment.

4. Help with Hyperhidrosis:

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes excessive sweating. Botox injections into the sweat glands can temporarily block the unnecessary signals sent to the nerves which stimulate sweat. A single treatment can reduce hyperhidrosis for about six months.

5. Bladder control:

Believe it or not, even incontinence and overactive bladders can be treated with botox. When injected into the bladder, it actually allows the bladder to expand, substantially increasing its capacity.

This can also be extremely helpful to patients with spinal cord injuries or other types paralysis. The increased capacity allows them a more regular, and predictable schedule.

Botox before and afterBotox is one of the most common treatments we perform at A E Skin and there are a lot of misconceptions about it. Before going through these misconceptions, let's take a moment to understand what Botox is and what it does.

Botox is a purified protein used to treat certain wrinkles on the face, common ones include the frown lines and crows feet. When injected into the skin Botox will relax the muscles in the face and smoothen out the overlying wrinkles. There are certain risks. Any time you get an injection there is a risk for pain, bleeding, bruising, redness, swelling, and infection. Other risks from a Botox treatment include unevenness, droopy eyelids, and blurred vision.

Myth: The best time to get Botox is when I start to see wrinkles.

This is a very common misconception about Botox. Many people get preventive Botox treatments, or what we call pre-juvenation. Some people don't have wrinkles at rest, but you can see deep lines when they frown of smile. This is a great time for a Botox treatment. If you wait too long these lines will appear at rest, that is when you are not even frowning or smiling. By this point it may be too late; Botox doesn't work too well for deep wrinkles at rest. Many people start their Botox treatments in their twenties.

Myth: I will see my Botox results right away.

You will not see your Botox results right away. The Botox protein needs to bind to the receptors in your skin; this takes time. Most people see their Botox results in three to seven days. But some people do not see their full Botox results for two weeks. This is important to know if you are preparing for a big event. Dr. Alex recommends getting a Botox treatment four weeks prior to a big event. In this way if a touch up is needed, it can be done two weeks before the event and your results will be perfect at the event. When preparing for a wedding it is a good idea to get your first Botox treatment six to nine months before the big day. This will give you an idea if 1. you like the Botox results, 2. how quickly you see your Botox results, and 3. how long you enjoy your Botox results. Based on this you can determine exactly when to get your treatment before you tie the knot.

Myth: Botox will remove all wrinkles.

As mentioned above, Botox is a protein that relaxes muscles. Some wrinkles (frown lines, crows feet) are seen when we use our facial muscles as when frowning or smiling. These are ideal targets for Botox. Other wrinkles such as the laugh lines that go from the sides of the noes to the corners of the mouth are seen at rest. These are caused by volume loss, not muscle contraction. So Botox does not work on these wrinkles. Instead you need a filler to restore the lost volume. Common fillers include Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Belotero, and Voluma. Juvederm Volbella will be available in the United States in October 2016.

If the wrinkles are very deep at rest, Botox may not eliminate the wrinkle entirely. But Botox may soften it when you use the muscle.

Myth: If I stop getting Botox, my wrinkles will get worse.

Most people enjoy the results of their Botox treatment for three to four months. After that point, the skin goes back to how it was before the Botox treatment. The wrinkles do not get worse. Now if you get Botox for ten years and you stop you will be ten years older so there will be some changes seen with aging anyway.

Myth: Botox is only for women.

Although most of our patients that receive Botox are women, more and more men are getting Botox treatments every year. Some offices call this "Bro-tox" or "Boy-tox." We just call it Botox. In general men have larger muscles than women, both on the body and on the face. So often times men will receive higher doses of Botox than women.

Tags: Juvederm   Volbella

Juvederm Volbella before and afterThis week Juvederm Volbella was approved by the FDA for treatment of volume loss in and around the lips. Juvederm Volbella was first approved in Europe in 2011. It is currently distributed in over 70 countries in Asia, South America, and North America (Canada) and it will be available soon in the United States.

What is Juvederm Volbella?

Juvederm Volbella is a filler used to add volume to the lips and fill in lines around the lips. These are often called smoker's lines, but can be seen in non-smokers as well. A number of factors lead to smoker's lines including, sun damage, genetics, and use of the lips for tasks such as smoking or sucking on straws.

What is the difference between Juvederm and Juvederm Volbella?

Juvederm has been approved and used for many years for the laugh lines, the wrinkles that go from the side of the nose to the corners of the mouth often seen when we smile. Sometimes thee lines continue all the way down to the jawline. Juvederm has not been tested in the United States for use in and around the lips. Now Juvederm Volbella has. Juvederm Volbella uses a proprietary Vycross technology developed by Allergan, makers of Botox, Voluma, Kybella, and Latisse.

What is Vycross?

Vycross is a technology which has to do with the chemistry of the hyaluronic acid in Juvederm Volbella (and also in Voluma) when the material is made. Different sizes of hyaluronic acid are used in Juvederm Volbella, this makes the material smoother. Also the particles are cross linked so that it lasts longer.

Is Juvederm Volbella safe?

The safety of Juvederm Volbella has been demonstrated in multiple studies. The most common side effects are the same as those with other fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Voluma: swelling, bruising, redness, lumps, tenderness, redness, itching, and discoloration. Most of these resolve on their own within 30 days.

How long does Juvederm Volbella last?

In the Juvederm Volbella studies, two thirds of patients saw improvement in lip fullness and lines around the mouth at one year.

When will Juvederm Volbella be available?

Juvederm Volbella will be available in the United States in October 2016.
