You spoke. We listened. We have had many patients ask us if we have a location on the West Side, as it is more convenient for them. We are now available in a second office in Beverly Hills. Now you can get your treatments in our new Beverly Hills office or our Encino office. Don't worry, our Encino office is still open for all of our patients. We all know about how dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Voluma are used to rejuvenate the face. But did you know that these dermal fillers can also be used to rejuvenate the hands?
Why do I need dermal fillers?
With age we lose volume in the skin. This is apparent on the face when the cheek fat pads get smaller, leading to a descent, giving the appearance of the smile lines or laugh lines (nasolabial foods), marionette lines, a square shaped face, jowls, and decreased definition along the jawline. Dermal fillers are used to restore this volume and provide a youthful appearance.
What other areas can be rejuvenated with dermal fillers?
Facial rejuvenation is very common because your face is the first thing people see when they look at you. But it the face is rejuvenated and other areas are not, there is a mismatch. For example, you meet someone and their face looks great. But when you shake her hand, the hand looks much older. This is a dead giveaway that treatments were done. Now rejuvenation is done on other areas. The backs of the hands is another area where we lose volume over time. This leads to visibility of veins and tendons. Dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Voluma can be used to restore the volume in the hands and provide a youthful appearance there too.
What happens during a hand dermal filler treatment?
The dermal filler treatment is very straight forward. The areas are numbed with a cream for about 15 minutes, just like the face. A small needle is used to inject the material into the skin and it is easily massaged to smoothen it out right after.
What is a cannula?
Sometimes we use a cannula to inject dermal fillers. A cannula is similar to a needle but it is longer and has a blunt tip instead of a sharp tip. This provides multiple advantages. There is only one injection site for improved comfort. A blunt tipped cannula will not pierce blood vessels. This is important because if the dermal filler gets into an artery there can be necrosis, or skin death, in the nearby area. Also the risk of bruising is decreased.
Is the dermal filler treament painful?
How long does the dermal filler treatment take?
The dermal filler treatment usually takes less than 15 minutes.
How much dermal filler will I need for my hands?
The amount of dermal filler used for the hands is variable and depends on the amount of volume loss. The more volume loss, the more hollow the hands appear, and the more dermal filler will be required. Most people require anywhere from two to four syringes for both hands, but some people require even more. Dr. Alex recommends returning two weeks after your dermal filler treatment to assess your results and decide if you want more dermal filler.
When will I see results after a dermal filler treatment in the hand?
You will see the results right away after you dermal filler treatment in the hands.
How long do the results of dermal filler treatments in the hands last?
You will enjoy your results of you dermal filler treatment in the hands for about six months. This is less than the longevity of fillers in the face because we use our hands for numerous activities and the dermal filler gets metabolized more quickly.
What should I do after my dermal filler treatment?
After your dermal filler treatment avoid heat exposure, alcohol consumption, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Gently massage the areas for five minutes at a time, five times per day, for the first five days. This will help smooth out the dermal filler (but it doesn’t degrade it). You can apply a moisturizer on the skin to help massage the area.

Video Demonstration of Dermal Fillers for the Hands
Dr. Alex attended The Aesthetic Show 2016 from Thursday July 7, 2016 through Sunday July 10, 2016 at the Wynn hotel in Las Vegas, NV. This was the sixth year in a row that Dr. Alex attended this conference desgined for cosmetic doctors and their staff to learn about what's new in cosmetics and how to improve. This year Dr. Alex attended the pre-show course on injectables, which included lectures and live demonstrations on new techniques and indication for Botox and fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, and Voluma. Dr. Alex learned new techniques for a Botox eyebrow lift and how to fill the hollows in the temples with Voluma. Lectures included various topics such as laser treatments, skin care, Botox, Voluma, and Kybella. Other lectures featured marketing which discussed how to help patients find our office and what can be done to help patients with their investments. The exhibit hall featured various vendors from laser companies such as Sciton laser, makers of the Forever Young BBL which we use in our office, to Allergan, makers of Botox, Juvederm, Voluma, Kybella, and Latisse, to skin care companies such as Elta MD, makers of the popular UV Clear sunscreen. One of the most popular topics was feminine vaginal rejuvenation, a treatment now offered by several device manufacturers which helps tighten structures which get loose after pregnancy. The treatment enhances satisfaction during intercourse and increases self-confidence. It also helps increase lubrication, which is a concern among many women around and after menopause. It also helps with stress urinary incontinence, a condition where women leak urine when they cough, sneeze, or laugh. A new exhibitor was Dr. Miami who discussed how to use social media to attract new patients with Dr. Alex. Dr. Alex also had the pleasure of having dinner meetings with Jay and Mara Shorr of The Best Medical Business Solutions and executives from Alastin Skin Care, a new skin care line we carry at A E Skin featuring the Skin Nectar, a product that helps with recovery after treatments and stimulates collagen and elastin in the skin. Dr. Alex also had the pleasure of catching up with friends such as Dr. Alexander Rivkin of Westside Aesthetics in Los Angeles, CA, inventor of the non-surgical nose job, Dr. Jason Emer of Spalding Drive Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills, CA, Dr. Andrew Ordon of the hit television show The Doctors, Dr. Miachel Persky in Encino, CA, Dr. Tahl Humes of Vitahl Medical Aesthetics in Denver, CO, and Dr. Michael Gold of Gold Skin Care in Nashville, TN, where Dr. Alex did his training. The highlight of the conference was The Aesthetic Awards which featured winners in various cosmetic categories as well as raffle prizes. The Aesthetic Show was a wonderful conference and Dr. Alex looks forward to continuing his education next year.

We are proud to offer Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing at A E Skin in Encino, CA.
How does Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing work?
Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing uses a tiny laser beam to treat thousands of pinpoint areas of your skin. Because only a fraction of your skin is directly treated with the laser, the surrounding untreated tissue promotes rapid healing. This skin’s wound healing response creates new collagen which add firmness and resilience to the skin. The laser generates a significant amount of heat to stimulate collagen, tightening the skin and improving fine lines and wrinkles. The improvement is seen over several weeks to months after the treatment.
What is the primary application of Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing?
Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing can be used for a number of applications, including fine and deep wrinkles, acne scars, and signs of aging such as discolorations. Based on an assessment of your skin condition and cosmetic goals, Dr. Alex may recommend Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing.
What areas of the body can be treated with Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing?
Most skin areas can be treated with Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing. Popular treatment areas are the face and neck, though many people also treat the chest and hands. You should discuss your needs with Dr. Alex.
How many Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatments will I need?
Excellent results can be obtained in just one Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing, but some people may benefit from up to three treatments. Dr. Alex will personalize a plan based on your specific needs and may recommend combining Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing with other aesthetic procedures to further personalize your treatment.
What will happen during the Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatment?
Your skin will be cleaned in the treatment area and your eyes will be protected with safety shields. A laser handpiece will be positioned gently on the skin. When the laser energy is applied, you will hear a rapid succession of snapping sounds. The handpiece will be moved around to adjacent locations until the entire treatment area has been covered. The procedure normally takes 15 to 30 minutes.
Is Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing uncomfortable?
Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing is widely regarded as a comfortable procedure, usually tolerated with the use of a topical numbing cream or a local anesthetic, depending on the depth of treatment.
What should I expect immediately after the Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatment?
Immediately following the Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatment you may experience mild redness and a sensation resembling sunburn. Dr. Alex will provide specific after-treatment care recommendations, which may include analgesics and application of an ointment to keep the skin moist.
How long will it take to recover?
Complete healing typically occurs within one to two weeks. There will likely be some swelling that will subside within two weeks after the treatment. Some people experience prolonged redness after the treatment for up to two months.
What aftercare do I need?
It is important to carefully follow the aftercare instructions. Your skin will be sensitive to ultra-violet light after the procedure, so you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed. Fully cover your skin or use a sunscreen with SPF at least 30 with broad spectrum coverage every day. Avoid heat, alcohol, and exercise for at least 24 hours after the Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatment, because this can draw blood to the skin and lead to unwanted side effects such as blisters and discoloration.
When should I expect results?
As your skin heals in the days following your treatment, you may notice a general tightening effect. However, the true benefit of Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing is the collagen remodeling that occurs during the 3 to 6 months following your treatment.
We are offering an exclusive special available until Sunday July 24, 2016.

Nefertiti was the wife of an Egyptian pharaoh who was known for her well-defined jaw line and long neck. These traits are highly desirable for many people and now there is a treatment to help improve the definition of the jawline and flatten the neck. Now with the Nefertiti neck lift we can get these results without surgery.
What is the Nefertiti neck lift?
The Nefertiti neck lift uses Botox to relax the muscles in the neck which pull down on the jawline and create a saggy appearance. Injection points are done just below the jawline to improve the definition on the jawline, above the jawline to point the corners of the mouth upward, and on the neck to flatten the neck muscles.
How long does the Nefertiti neck lift treatment take?
The Nefertiti neck lift treatment requires several Botox injections on the lower face and only takes a few minutes.
How long will the results of the Nefertiti neck lift last?
You will enjoy the results of your Nefertiti neck lift for three to four months.
Does the Nefertiti neck lift hurt?
Dr. Alex uses the painless Botox technique which he designed to maximize your comfort.
When will I see the results of my Nefertiti neck lift?
The results of a Nefertiti neck lift, as with other Botox treatments are seen in three to seven day, but it can take up to two weeks to see full results.
What else can I do to improve the appearance of my neck?
The Nefertiti neck lift works well with many other treatments. For example, the Nefertiti neck lift can enhance the results of a Voluma treatment, which volumizes the upper cheeks where you lose volume over time, thus giving a lift. When you relax the muscles that pull down the skin at the jawline with the Nefertiti neck lift, you will see a further lift in the cheek and improvement in the jawline definition. This also works well when Juvederm is used in the marionette lines, the lines from the corners of the mouth to the jawline. Other skin tightening treatments such as Ultherapy, laser skin tightening, and Pro Fractional Therapy which stimulate collagen production will have enhanced results when combined with the Nefertiti neck lift. Kybella is one of our newest treatments to treat the doube chin. When the double chin is reduced, the lack of jawline definition becomes more noticable and accentuated. The Nefertiti neck lift therefore is a great complement to a Kybella treatment as well.
