Combining Juvederm Fillers for Natural Results

The Juvederm family of dermal fillers now includes a variety of products which provide natural results when combined.

What are dermal fillers?

Voluma and Vollure before and afterDermal fillers are products that are used to restore volume in the face. They help rejuvenate the face and provide a youthful and refreshed appearance. The dermal fillers available in the United States include the Juvederm family of products, the Restylane family of products, RadiesseSculptraBelotero, and BellafillJuvedermRestylane, and Belotero are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in the skin that binds 1,000 times its weight in water. They work by drawing water into the skin to provide volume. They have a good safety profile because they can be dissolved if the product is inadvertently placed into a blood vessel.

What is the Juvederm family of dermal fillers?

The Juvederm family of dermal fillers are the most popular dermal fillers in the United States. They are made by Allergan, the same company that makes BotoxLatisseKybella, and Skin Medica products. We are happy to participate in the Allergan Brilliant Distinctions Program, a rewards program where patients receive points for receiving any of these treatments or purchasing these products. These points can be used for subsequent treatments. As mentioned above the Juvederm family of fillers are all composed of hyaluronic acid fillers, make them a safe and natural product to use. The original members of this family are Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus. These use a proprietary cross-linking technology called Hyalacross. This is a fancy way of explaining the chemistry in the product. The three newest members of the family include VolumaVollure, and Volbella. These use a newer technology called Vycross, which allows them to last longer. Now Dr. Alex recommends these products as they provide longer lasting results and the results are very natural. The difference between VolumaVollure, and Volbella is the thickness of the products and what they are used for. Voluma has the highest level of hyaluronic acid, making it the firmest product in this group. Voluma is ideal for restoring lost volume in the upper cheeks and mid-face. Often times an immediate lift can be seen. Volbella, on the other hand, has the lowest amount of hyaluronic acid, making it the softest product in this family. Volbella is ideal for fine lines on and around the lips as well as shaping the borders of the lips. Volbella also works well for to restore lost volume under the eyes. Vollure has an intermediate level of hyaluronic acid. Vollure works well for the nasolabial folds or laugh lines, which go from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth, as well as the marionette lines, which are sometimes seen as the continuation of the nasolabial fold to the jawline. Vollure is also great for those wanting more fullness to the lips.

What are the results when the Juvederm products are combined?

When these products are used in combination beautiful results can be achieved. Typically, the results are subtle and natural, providing a rested or refreshed appearance. Dr. Alex recommends starting with a conservative amount of product, as more can always be added later. Conservative amounts usually start at two syringes, or one per side. In the photograph seen here, the patient received two syringes of Voluma (one per side) in the upper cheeks and two syringes of Vollure (one per side) in the nasolabial folds. The scar under her lip on the right side of the photograph was not treated. This patient enjoyed a natural result as seen by the lift in the mid face, improvement of the nasolabial folds, and the appearance of a heart-shaped lower face.
