Lasers can be used to treat bruising after cosmetic treatments. They are not only for wrinkles and age spots. Let's be honest, everyone wants to look better, more youthful. This is commonly achieved with various injectable treatments such as Botox, Juvederm, and Voluma. However, a lot of the time we see bruising after these treatments. Is it common? It depends. For example with neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin bruising is infrequent. But with fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Voluma bruising is more common. This is because with filler treatments such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Voluma the needle is larger and travels further and deeper in the skin, increasing the likelihood of hitting a blood vessel. Also certain areas such as under the eyes are rich with blood vessels and bruising is more common in these areas. And some people are more prone to bruising than others. It is important to understand that bruising is a side effect that we should expect, not get upset about. This is because the blood vessels in the skin are microscopic and even the best injectors cannot see them when doing Botox, Juvederm, and Voluma treatments. Applying pressure and ice packs right after the Botox, Juvederm, or Voluma treatment will minimize bruising. Preparing the skin by pre-cooling it with cold air or ice packs decreases the risk for bruising during a treatment. Cold air also minimizes pain and bleeding as seen in this Botox demonstration. The good news is that you can usually cover it up with makeup and it is temporary and the bruise will go away on its own. But if you want a fast fix, the bruise can be treated with a laser. This is a fast and simple treatment with a laser that makes the bruise go away faster. The laser works just like those for leg veins because the target is blood. Often times the bruise gets darker before it gets lighter, this is normal. But it will go away faster. At A E Skin we offer complimentary laser treatments for bruises after any injectable treatment, no appointment necessary. Contact us to schedule an appointment with Dr. Alex.
