Striping from IPL Photofacial Treatments

The Forever Young BBL IPL Photofacial is an outstanding treatment to address a number of concerns such as uneven color and redness on the skin. With any treatment, there are potential complications. One such complication with IPL photofacial treatments is called striping, which is discussed here.

What is an IPL photofacial treatment?

Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial before and afterIPL stands for intense pulsed light. It is also called a photofacial, or IPL photofacial. The treatment works by using bright light to target and destroy unwanted pigment and blood in the skin. This can be seen as dark spots, sun spots, age spots, generalized or diffuse redness, rosacea, and broken capillaries. The pigment and blood absorb the light and are heated and consequently destroyed. The IPL photofacial treatment takes a few minutes. Sometimes darks spots get darker before they get lighter and they may or may not flake off the skin surface. There may be redness on the skin for a day or two after an IPL photofacial treatment. Otherwise, there is no recovery time after an IPL photofacial treatment; most people resume their normal activities right away. Dr. Alex recommends an initial series of six monthly IPL photofacial treatments followed by one maintenance IPL photofacialtreatment every three months thereafter.

What is striping?

Striping is a possible complication after an IPL photofacial characterized by the appearance of either dark or light stripes on the skin. This can occur as a result of an IPL photofacial treatment. During the IPL photofacial treatment, the tip on the device is placed on the skin to pulse the light. The tip is usually rectangular or square in shape. After a pulse, the tip is moved to the adjacent portion of the skin which has not yet been treated. If there is space between these areas, there will be certain areas of untreated skin. In such cases, the unwanted pigment may be cleared in the treated areas, but not in these untreated areas, making it look like stripes of untreated dark skin between usually larger striped of treated even colored skin. This is a result of not having enough overlap between pulses. On the other hand, if there is overlap from one pulse to the next adjacent pulse, the areas of overlap are effectively treated twice. If the settings are aggressive burns and discoloration can be seen on these thin areas of overlap, also creating striping.

What is the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacialtreatment?

The Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial is an IPL photofacial device made by Sciton which provides superior results compared with other IPL photofacialdevices. The Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial by Sciton has a number of unique features when compared to IPL photofacial devices by other manufacturers which provide both superior results combined with increased safety to avoid potential complications such as striping. The tip of the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial by Sciton device is the largest on the market and pulses can be repeated very quickly. This allows the skin to be treated much more quickly than IPL photofacial treatments using other devices. To take advantage of this benefit, Dr. Alex treats the skin with multiple passes using lower settings using the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial by Sciton. This allows for safe overlap of pulses without the possibility of striping. The passes are performed in different directions, allowing for full overlap without missing areas of the skin. When using the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial by ScitonDr. Alexhas never seen striping after having performed thousands of such treatments. But this has been seen with other devices. Another feature of the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial by Sciton is that it has many different filters that can be changes quickly and easily. This allows for treatment of different skin types, which is not possible with other IPL photofacial devices. It can also be used to treat acne, unwanted hair, and loose skin using the SkinTyte. Additionally, the cooling temperature of the tip of the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial device by Sciton can be adjusted by one degree Celsius. This allows for a tremendous amount of versatility and safety when treating darker skin types. Darker skin types are more likely to get darker after a treatment, but when the temperature of the device is reduced this risk is minimized. Finally, the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial by Sciton uses adaptors which can be placed on the tip to decrease the size of the treated area. This allows for the treatment of small areas and single spots such as age spots and broken capillaries with higher settings without affecting the surrounding skin (which can cause burns). For all of these reasons, the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial by Sciton provides outstanding results combined with comfort and safety.
