Alastin Hydratint sunscreeThe single most important product recommended for skin health is sunscreen. There are many, many sunscreens available on the market and it is important to find a product that works well. Everyone’s skin is different and not all products are ideal for everyone. But the new Hydratint sunscreen by Alastin is a product that works well for many people.

Why is sunscreen important?

Light from the sun damages the skin in many ways. When light hits the skin, it forms free radicals. These are small molecules that affect the skin at the cellular level, damaging the DNA and proteins. The proteins that maintain the structure of the skin such as collagen and elastin become damaged, leading to fine lines and wrinkles. The amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases, leading to dry and dehydrated skin. Production of melanin is stimulated, leading to the formation of dark spots. The DNA is damaged, which increases the risk of skin cancer. All of these things are undesirable. Therefore, it is critical to protect ourselves from the sun.

What should I look for in a sunscreen?

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Also look for UVA and UVB (broad spectrum) protection. This protects against two kinds of UV (ultraviolet rays): UVA rays which cause aging and UVB rays which cause burns. It is important to apply sunscreen every day, even if it is cold or overcast, because the sun’s rays can penetrate through clouds. There are two types of sunscreen ingredients: physical and chemical. Physical ingredients include zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These reflect the light from the sun and cause minimal irritation to the skin. They also block both UVA and UVB rays. There are a variety of chemical sunscreen ingredients. These absorb the light from the sun so that is does not damage the skin. These should be applied 30 minutes prior to going outside. Some chemical sunscreens can irritate the skin, especially for those who are sensitive. This is particularly important after laser treatments and chemical peels. Therefore, physical sunscreens are ideal for post-procedure.

May new sunscreens provide a number of additional benefits. For example, some include ingredients to hydrate the skin. This allows the product to work as a moisturizer and sunscreen in one. Others include a tint, allowing for the product to work as a primer or foundation. This makes it easy to apply skin care products for those with busy lifestyles who do not have too much time in the mornings. Some of the physician-dispensed sunscreens also include other products such as antioxidants to provide further protection and to rejuvenate the skin.

What is the Alastin Hydratint sunscreen?

The Alastin Hydratint sunscreen is our newest sunscreen and is quickly becoming one of our most popular products. The Alastin Hydratint sunscreen is a physical sunscreen containing zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which makes it safe for those with sensitive skin and for those who have recently had a laser treatment. The SPF is 36 and it has UVA and UVB protection. The Alastin Hydratint sunscreen also contains a number of antioxidants which protects the skin from environmental pollution as well as products to hydrate the skin. Finally, the Alastin Hydratint sunscreen has a light tint that is compatible with most skin types to provide coverage and reduce the need for more makeup.

Wrinkles on the face are some of the most common concerns we use and Botox and fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Restylane, and Radiesse to address these concerns. Topical products such as the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex and the A E Skin Hydrating Serum enhance the results of these treatments.

What is Botox used for?

Botox is used to treat wrinkles associated with facial expression. Common areas of treatment with Botox include the horizontal lines on the upper forehead seen when we raise the brows, the vertical lines between the brows seen when we frown, and the crow’s feet around the eyes seen when we smile or squint. Botox works by relaxing the muscles that we use to make these expressions and smoothening the overlying wrinkles.

What are fillers used for?

Fillers such as JuvedermVolumaVolbellaVollureRestylane, and Radiesse are used to restore areas of volume loss in the face and off the face as well. Perhaps the most common area of treatment is the nasolabial fold, the wrinkle that goes from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Sometimes this wrinkle extends to the jawline as what are called the marionette lines. In these areas, as well as wrinkles directly around the mouth, the products serve to fill in the wrinkles. In the mid-face fillers such as Voluma can be used to restore volume loss that occurs with aging. This provides the apple of the cheek and pulls up on the lower face to address wrinkles, sagging, and jowls. Fillers such as Volbella can also be used to fill in hollows under the eyes and to plump the lips.

What is the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex?

Alastin Restorative Skin ComplexThe Alastin Restorative Skin Complex is a new topical product that is used for facial rejuvenation. When used with treatments such as Botox and fillers, the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex will enhance the results. It does this through its proprietary TriHex peptide technology, which stimulates the skin to form collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are two proteins in the skin that maintain the youthful appearance by providing structural support and keeping the skin tight. As we age the amounts of collagen and elastin in the skin decrease, leading to signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. When the skin produces its own natural new, fresh, and healthy collagen and elastin the skin becomes tighter and the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines is improved. Additionally, the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex contains other ingredients to volumize the skin, effectively boosting the effects of fillers. The Alastin Restorative Skin Complex also contains potent antioxidants to protect the skin from further damage and to smoothen out the skin tone. When the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex is used, the results of treatments such as Botox and fillers (JuvedermVolumaVolbellaVollureRestylane, and Radiesse) are enhanced. This means better results are seen and patients enjoy their results for a longer period of time. For a limited time we are offering $50 off the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex with purchase of two syringes of fillers.

What is the A E Skin Hydrating Serum?

The A E Skin Hydrating Serum is one of our most popular products. It is like drinking a glass of water for the skin. The A E Skin Hydrating Serum contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in the skin that binds 1,000 times its weight in water. When applied topically to the skin the A E Skin Hydrating Serum draws the water into the skin providing hydration. This helps fill in fine lines on the surface of the skin. Hyaluronic acid is the same ingredient in many fillers such as JuvedermVolumaVolbellaVollure, and Restylane. When fillers are injected into the deep layers of the skin and the A E Skin Hydrating Serum is applied topically to the skin surface the effects of hydration are increased. This allows for an improvement in the wrinkles and for the results to last longer.

Alastin productsThe Alastin Skin Nectar is a new skin care product now available at A E Skin. The Alastin Skin Nectar is an outstanding product that can be added to any skin care regimen and enhances the results of any type of treatment. It contains a proprietary blend of peptides called the TriHex technology that stimulates the formation of collagen and elastin. We all know what collagen is. It is the protein in the skin that keeps it firm, tight, and youthful in appearance. Many products stimulate collagen formation including retinols, vitamin C, and various hydroxy acids. But what is elastin? Elastin is another protein found in the skin that works with collagen to help with the firmness of the skin. And the Alastin Skin Nectar is the first product on the market to target elastin. The Alastin Skin Nectar supports the skin before, during, and after procedures such as fractional lasers, IPL photofacials, chemical peels, and more. It comes in an airless pump tube and is applied twice daily. If it is used for a few weeks before a treatment it can decrease the recovery time of a treatment by about a day or two.

Benefits of the Alastin Skin Nectar

  • The Alastin Skin Nectar stimulates the skin to naturally increase both collagen and elastin and improves the quality of collagen in the skin.
  • The Alastin Skin Nectar also contains high levels of antioxidants to protect your skin from treatments, reducing inflammation, irritation, and redness.

The Alastin Skin Nectar is paraben free, gluten free, and cruelty free, and is now available at A E Skin. Contact us to schedule a consultation with Dr. Alex.
