The A E Skin line of skin care products continues to provide outstanding results for our patients. Dr. Alex designed this line of product to address the most common concerns patients have: uneven color, irregular texture, and acne.
The image shown here is a before and after picture of a 34 year old female who was concerned with her acne and her uneven color. This included dark spots left over from acne breakouts; these are commonly, but incorrectly referred to as scars. She had tried a number of products, none of which worked. She even invested a lot of money in treatments such as PRP, the results of which were disappointing. Understandably, she was hesitant to try new products.
This patient started on the standard line of A E Skin line of skin care products: Brightening Cream, Exfoliating Serum, Triple Antioxidant Serum, and Hydrating Serum. The photograph on the right is after using these products for just two months without having any treatments. She noticed an improvement in her acne, uneven color, and texture. She also enjoyed a youthful glow to her skin. She commented that her coworkers also noticed an improvement in her skin.

The Brightening Cream is our most popular product and we often sell out of it. The Brightening Cream contains three active ingredients: hydroquinone, kojic acid, and retin-A (retinoic acid). Hydroquinone is the strongest brightening agent available and serves to lighten up the dark spots on the skin. Kojic acid is another brightening agent that works by a different mechanism than hydroquinone. Together they provide a powerful punch. Retin-A is a vitamin A derivative that exfoliated, smoothens out the skin surface, helps with acne, reduces the appearance of wrinkles, tightens the skin, and decreases enlarged pores. The Brightening Cream is used at night on a clean, dry face. The Brightening Cream is a prescription-strength medication and is only available for patients who have had a consultation with Dr. Alex in the Encino, CA office.
As its name implies, the Exfolilating Serum gently exfoliates the dead skin cells from the surface. The active ingredient is salicylic acid. It works in a different way from the retin-A. Specifically salicylic acid breaks the glue that holds the dead skin cells together. It works well for all skin types and particularly well for oily skin types. The Acne Max Solution is a modified version of the Exfoliating Serum which contains a higher level of salicylic acid and also includes other products directed at acne. The Exfoliating Serum or Acne Max Solution are used first thing in the morning on a clean, dry face. The Exfoliating Serum and Acne Max Solution are prescription-strength products and are only available for patients who have had a consultation with Dr. Alex in the Encino, CA office.
The Triple Antioxidant Serum is a favorite of many patients. It contains vitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid. Vitamins C and E serve as antioxidants, each in a different part of the skin cells. This protects the skin from damage from free radicals that are formed by sun exposure or other insults such as pollution or smoking. Ferulic acid serves to stabilize the vitamin C so that it remains active for every use. In addition to its antioxidant properties, vitamin C also helps to smoothen out uneven color. Some people apply lemon juice to their skin to even out the color; it is the vitamin C in lemon juice that is responsible for this response. Vitamin C is also a cofactor for collagen formation. Collagen is the protein in the skin that is responsible for keeping the skin tight, firm, and youthful in appearance. Formation of new collagen will serve to decrease wrinkles and close enlarged pores. The Triple Antioxidant Serum is used in the morning immediately after the Exfoliating Serum or Acne Max Solution and it is available on our online store.
Approximately two thirds of the skin is composed of water. It is therefore important to have enough water in the skin for appropriate function. There are three steps in maintaining adequate water in the skin. The first is drinking enough water. Dr. Alex recommends drinking at least 8 cups of water each day. The second step is getting that water into the skin. This is what the Hydrating Serum does. The third and final step is trapping that water in the skin by using a good moisturizer on top. The Hydrating Serum is made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in the skin that binds 1,000 times its weight in water. It works well to draw water into the skin to provide the hydration necessary for appropriate skin function. This water helps to fill in fine lines and the product works well in combination with Botox and fillers. Our patients say that it makes their skin feel like silk. Only two or three drops of the Hydrating Serum are required twice daily immediately before moisturizer. The Hydrating Serum is available on our online store.
At A E Skin patient satisfaction is a top priority and we are always trying to improve. We continually request feedback from our patients and make changes to all aspects of our service based on this feedback. The most recent update is our Brightening Cream. The A E Skin Brightening Cream is our most popular product and we have made improvements to make it better than ever. The Brightening Cream is a powerful combination of multiple prescription-strength ingredients for overall rejuvenation of the skin. Containing two brightening ingredients (hydroquinone and kojic acid) the Brightening Cream is highly effective for addressing dark spots, sun spots, uneven color, and melasma. At the same time the retin-A stimulates cell turnover, removing dead skin cells from the surface to provide a soft smooth texture and a bright, glowing, and radiant appearance. For this reason the Brightening Cream is also a great product for acne. Additionally, the retin-A stimulates collagen production. Collagen is the protein in the skin responsible for maintaining a firm and tight appearance. As we age we lose the collagen in our skin. By stimulating the skin to naturally produce collagen, the Brightening Cream will help with fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and enlarged pores. It is used once daily at night and helps give you improved results and decreases the risk of side effects when combined with chemical peels or laser treatments such as the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial, Micro Laser Peel, Laser Skin Tightening, Pro Fractional Therapy, Soft and Smooth Rejuvenation, Tight and Bright Rejuvenation, Fountain of Youth Rejuvenation, Weekend Rejuvenation, and Ultimate Rejuvenation. The collagen boost complements treatments such as Botox, Voluma, Juvederm, Restylane, and Ultherapy and products such as the NuFace Trinity Pro. The Brightening Cream has been the centerpiece of the A E Skin line of product for five years. Our supplier stopped making it approximately one year ago and we used other suppliers. The active ingredients have been identical so the results have continued to be outstanding. But our patients provided valuable feedback in terms of the tube and consistency of the cream base. We have now refined the product with an easy to use pump tube and a comfortable and effective cream base. We are excited to be able to constantly improve our products and services. We are currently working on a new product, the Illuminating Cream, which should be available in the near future. The Illuminating Cream is a blend of five different anti-aging ingredients and is designed as an alternative to the Brightening Cream for people that get irritation. We are proud to carry the A E Skin line of products for our patients. Our skin care products work for just about any type of skin and address multiple concerns. The Brightening Cream is our most popular product, we can't keep it on the shelves. The Brightening Cream has three prescription strength ingredients to treat dark spots and discolorations as well as fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne, and acne scars. The Brightening Cream works well to treat damaged skin and at the same time providing rejuvenation for anti-aging effects. Some people can get dry with this product, which is why many people combine it with the Hydrating Serum. The Hydrating Serum is like drinking a glass of water for your skin. It contains hyaluronic acid, which draws water into the skin and hydrates dry skin while improving fine lines and wrinkles. The Hydrating Serum is used twice a day just before moisturizer. The Triple Antioxidant Serum is another popular product. Vitamins C and E with ferulic acid will boost the sun protection from sunscreen, preventing damage in the form of dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles. Vitamin C also helps stimulate collagen formation, to provide the tight and youthful appearance people want. The Triple Antioxidant Serum works in different ways than the Brightening Cream and together they provide a powerful punch. The Triple Antioxidant Serum is applied in the morning while the Brightening Cream is applied at night. The Exfoliating Serum rounds out the core products in the A E Skin line of products. Containing salicylic acid, it dissolves the glue that holds the dead skin cells together on the skin surface, providing a gently daily exfoliation. A stronger version, the Acne Max Solution, contains 50 % more salicylic acid along with other ingredients targeting acne to help with redness and killing the bacteria in the skin. For best results, the products are used for four to eight weeks prior to treatments such as the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial treatment, Micro Laser Peel, Soft and Smooth Rejuvenation, Pro Fractional Therapy, Ultimate Rejuvenation, chemical peels, and Ultherapy. The collagen boost from the A E Skin products complements treatments such as Botox, Juvederm, and Voluma. Please see our video testimonials from our satisfied patients. Women who are pregnant or breast feeding should not use the Brightening Cream, Exfoliating Serum, or Acne Max solution. Contact us for a free constulation with Dr. Alex.
Why is hydroquinone banned in other countries? This is a common question we get from patients. It makes many people afraid of using products such as hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is the strongest brightening agent we have and is used in various brightening creams, bleaching creams, color correctors, and dark spot removng creams. It works well for various types of discoloration on the skin such as sun damage and melasma. Hydroquinone is found naturally in coffee, beans, and vegetables. So people eat it all the time. In the United States hydroquinone is available over the counter at 2 % strength. The most common prescription strength for hydroquinone in the US is 4 %. It is often compounded in higher strengths such as 6 % in the A E Skin Brightening Cream. The issue with hydroquinone in other countries is not hydroquinone itself. It is that it is often contaminated in mercury when prepared overseas. Mercury is toxic to the kidneys and nervous system and can cause problems with brain development in unborn children. In the US we have extremely high standards of production of compounded medications so that there are no levels of mercury contamination in our hydroquinone products. In order to make clean products here in the US it takes more time and effort, making the process more costly. This is not the case in other countries, which is why products made in other countries are often more affordable. Often times these products are sold online, which makes things very dangerous to most people that do not know about this. Therefore it is critical that patients use products with hydroquinone that are made by certified laboratories in the United States for safe use. In this way hydroquinone can be used safely and effectively to treat skin discolorations. At A E Skin, all of our skin care products are produced at certified laboratories in the United States, making them safe to use as directed, and we stand by all of our products.
