At AE Skin in Encino, CA, Dr. Alex Eshaghian and his dedicated team love to give people the refreshed youthful skin they long for. If you have sagging neck skin, furrows between your brows and facial age spots that make you feel older than you really are, then Dr. Alex can guide you to the skin care just right for you. One of his most innovative and effective services is fractional CO2 laser resurfacing which transforms facial appearance in as little as one in-office treatment.
What is Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing?
Dr. Alex Eshaghian offers this rejuvenation treatment to healthy adults who wish to improve the elasticity of the skin on their face, neck, hands and upper chest. Focused and intense beams of light, delivered through a handheld instrument, actually boost collagen production, the natural skin component which helps us look refreshed and youthful. In essence, these innovative laser treatments allow the body to rejuvenate itself.
Carefully applied by Dr. Alex, fractional CO2 Laser resurfacing:
- Smooths the look of fine lines and wrinkles
- Lightens age spots
- Minimizes the appearance of scars and birthmarks
- Brightness dullness and improves skin texture
- Refines large pores
Fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), this unique skincare treatment in Encino is open to adults who have realistic aesthetic goals for their appearance and who are in good overall health.
It happens in-office at AE Skin with a hand-held laser tool. The patient's skin is cleansed and an anesthetic cream applied. Comfortable eyewear protects the eyes during the entire treatment.
Typically, a complete treatment takes 15 to 30 minutes. It produces a reddened tone to the skin, similar to a mild sunburn. Some tightening results are obvious immediately; however, optimal changes develop gradually over several weeks to months.
After CO2 laser resurfacing
Right after treatment, the patient should expect to rest at home for a day or two. Ice to the treated areas helps reduce puffiness and redness,
and over the counter analgesics manage any discomfort. While laser skin resurfacing is not a permanent "fix," it does produce excellent aesthetic results and is easier than more invasive procedures such as the surgical facelift.
American Society of Plastic Surgeons says that almost a quarter million of these amazing procedures were performed in the US in 2016. About 40 percent were delivered to the 55 and older age group.

With the new year here, we look forward to making our patients look and feel their best. In 2016 we began offering a variety of new products and services. We plan to continue these and expand their use, while adding even more products and services.
Kybella is the first and thus-far only FDA-approved, non-surgical, injectable treatment for the double chin. What people love is that Kybella is permanent and maintenance treatments are not required as they are with most other treatments such as Botox, Juvederm, Restylane, and Voluma. The launch of Kybella was in 2016. This year we are planning to expand the use of Kybella to other areas such as the bra fat.
Volbella is a new filler in the Juvederm family released in October 2016. Volbella is designed for subtle enhancement of the lips. Specifically, it works well for vertical lines on or around the lips. Volbella is also used to shape and enhance the borders of the lips. This year we will expand the use of Volbella in the lips by combining it with Juvederm. Juvederm is used to volumize the lips and Volbella is used to perfect the finishing touches. What people love about Volbella is that, like Voluma, it uses Vy-Cross technology which allows patients to enjoy their results for a full year.
Voluma is a dermal filler used to restore lost volume in the mid-face. Patients enjoy the results of their Voluma treatment for up to two years with optimal correction. Voluma is designed to be placed in the upper cheek, giving the face a lift without surgery. We are also using Voluma to restore volume in the temples, which occurs in many people over time. Voluma can be combined with other treatments such as Botox, Juvederm, and Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing (see below) for even more rejuvenation of the skin.
While the face is the most common area for rejuvenation, other areas are being treated as well. The hands have become an increasingly popular area for rejuvenation. The Hand Rejuvenation treatment is a combination treatment designed to address multiple aspects of aging in the hands in a single treatment. The Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial is used to address sun spots that commonly appear on the backs of the hands. Then a filler such as Voluma is used to restore lost volume, which occurs over time and leads to the appearance of veins and tendons.
Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing is a new treatment we launched toward the end of 2016 and it will surely be a popular treatment in 2017. Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing uses a laser to create thousands of microscopic holes in the skin while generating heat. This stimulates the body to produce its own natural collagen tightening the skin, leading to a dramatic improvement in wrinkles and sagging skin. Although recovery time can be one to two weeks, the results of a Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatment are so impressive that it’s worth it.
We are proud to offer Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing at A E Skin in Encino, CA.
How does Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing work?
Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing uses a tiny laser beam to treat thousands of pinpoint areas of your skin. Because only a fraction of your skin is directly treated with the laser, the surrounding untreated tissue promotes rapid healing. This skin’s wound healing response creates new collagen which add firmness and resilience to the skin. The laser generates a significant amount of heat to stimulate collagen, tightening the skin and improving fine lines and wrinkles. The improvement is seen over several weeks to months after the treatment.
What is the primary application of Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing?
Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing can be used for a number of applications, including fine and deep wrinkles, acne scars, and signs of aging such as discolorations. Based on an assessment of your skin condition and cosmetic goals, Dr. Alex may recommend Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing.
What areas of the body can be treated with Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing?
Most skin areas can be treated with Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing. Popular treatment areas are the face and neck, though many people also treat the chest and hands. You should discuss your needs with Dr. Alex.
How many Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatments will I need?
Excellent results can be obtained in just one Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing, but some people may benefit from up to three treatments. Dr. Alex will personalize a plan based on your specific needs and may recommend combining Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing with other aesthetic procedures to further personalize your treatment.
What will happen during the Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatment?
Your skin will be cleaned in the treatment area and your eyes will be protected with safety shields. A laser handpiece will be positioned gently on the skin. When the laser energy is applied, you will hear a rapid succession of snapping sounds. The handpiece will be moved around to adjacent locations until the entire treatment area has been covered. The procedure normally takes 15 to 30 minutes.
Is Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing uncomfortable?
Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing is widely regarded as a comfortable procedure, usually tolerated with the use of a topical numbing cream or a local anesthetic, depending on the depth of treatment.
What should I expect immediately after the Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatment?
Immediately following the Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatment you may experience mild redness and a sensation resembling sunburn. Dr. Alex will provide specific after-treatment care recommendations, which may include analgesics and application of an ointment to keep the skin moist.
How long will it take to recover?
Complete healing typically occurs within one to two weeks. There will likely be some swelling that will subside within two weeks after the treatment. Some people experience prolonged redness after the treatment for up to two months.
What aftercare do I need?
It is important to carefully follow the aftercare instructions. Your skin will be sensitive to ultra-violet light after the procedure, so you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed. Fully cover your skin or use a sunscreen with SPF at least 30 with broad spectrum coverage every day. Avoid heat, alcohol, and exercise for at least 24 hours after the Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatment, because this can draw blood to the skin and lead to unwanted side effects such as blisters and discoloration.
When should I expect results?
As your skin heals in the days following your treatment, you may notice a general tightening effect. However, the true benefit of Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing is the collagen remodeling that occurs during the 3 to 6 months following your treatment.
We are offering an exclusive special available until Sunday July 24, 2016.
