The A E Skin line of skin care products continues to provide outstanding results for our patients. Dr. Alex designed this line of product to address the most common concerns patients have: uneven color, irregular texture, and acne.
The image shown here is a before and after picture of a 34 year old female who was concerned with her acne and her uneven color. This included dark spots left over from acne breakouts; these are commonly, but incorrectly referred to as scars. She had tried a number of products, none of which worked. She even invested a lot of money in treatments such as PRP, the results of which were disappointing. Understandably, she was hesitant to try new products.
This patient started on the standard line of A E Skin line of skin care products: Brightening Cream, Exfoliating Serum, Triple Antioxidant Serum, and Hydrating Serum. The photograph on the right is after using these products for just two months without having any treatments. She noticed an improvement in her acne, uneven color, and texture. She also enjoyed a youthful glow to her skin. She commented that her coworkers also noticed an improvement in her skin.

The Brightening Cream is our most popular product and we often sell out of it. The Brightening Cream contains three active ingredients: hydroquinone, kojic acid, and retin-A (retinoic acid). Hydroquinone is the strongest brightening agent available and serves to lighten up the dark spots on the skin. Kojic acid is another brightening agent that works by a different mechanism than hydroquinone. Together they provide a powerful punch. Retin-A is a vitamin A derivative that exfoliated, smoothens out the skin surface, helps with acne, reduces the appearance of wrinkles, tightens the skin, and decreases enlarged pores. The Brightening Cream is used at night on a clean, dry face. The Brightening Cream is a prescription-strength medication and is only available for patients who have had a consultation with Dr. Alex in the Encino, CA office.
As its name implies, the Exfolilating Serum gently exfoliates the dead skin cells from the surface. The active ingredient is salicylic acid. It works in a different way from the retin-A. Specifically salicylic acid breaks the glue that holds the dead skin cells together. It works well for all skin types and particularly well for oily skin types. The Acne Max Solution is a modified version of the Exfoliating Serum which contains a higher level of salicylic acid and also includes other products directed at acne. The Exfoliating Serum or Acne Max Solution are used first thing in the morning on a clean, dry face. The Exfoliating Serum and Acne Max Solution are prescription-strength products and are only available for patients who have had a consultation with Dr. Alex in the Encino, CA office.
The Triple Antioxidant Serum is a favorite of many patients. It contains vitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid. Vitamins C and E serve as antioxidants, each in a different part of the skin cells. This protects the skin from damage from free radicals that are formed by sun exposure or other insults such as pollution or smoking. Ferulic acid serves to stabilize the vitamin C so that it remains active for every use. In addition to its antioxidant properties, vitamin C also helps to smoothen out uneven color. Some people apply lemon juice to their skin to even out the color; it is the vitamin C in lemon juice that is responsible for this response. Vitamin C is also a cofactor for collagen formation. Collagen is the protein in the skin that is responsible for keeping the skin tight, firm, and youthful in appearance. Formation of new collagen will serve to decrease wrinkles and close enlarged pores. The Triple Antioxidant Serum is used in the morning immediately after the Exfoliating Serum or Acne Max Solution and it is available on our online store.
Approximately two thirds of the skin is composed of water. It is therefore important to have enough water in the skin for appropriate function. There are three steps in maintaining adequate water in the skin. The first is drinking enough water. Dr. Alex recommends drinking at least 8 cups of water each day. The second step is getting that water into the skin. This is what the Hydrating Serum does. The third and final step is trapping that water in the skin by using a good moisturizer on top. The Hydrating Serum is made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in the skin that binds 1,000 times its weight in water. It works well to draw water into the skin to provide the hydration necessary for appropriate skin function. This water helps to fill in fine lines and the product works well in combination with Botox and fillers. Our patients say that it makes their skin feel like silk. Only two or three drops of the Hydrating Serum are required twice daily immediately before moisturizer. The Hydrating Serum is available on our online store.
Wrinkles on the face are some of the most common concerns we use and Botox and fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Restylane, and Radiesse to address these concerns. Topical products such as the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex and the A E Skin Hydrating Serum enhance the results of these treatments.
What is Botox used for?
Botox is used to treat wrinkles associated with facial expression. Common areas of treatment with Botox include the horizontal lines on the upper forehead seen when we raise the brows, the vertical lines between the brows seen when we frown, and the crow’s feet around the eyes seen when we smile or squint. Botox works by relaxing the muscles that we use to make these expressions and smoothening the overlying wrinkles.
What are fillers used for?
Fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Restylane, and Radiesse are used to restore areas of volume loss in the face and off the face as well. Perhaps the most common area of treatment is the nasolabial fold, the wrinkle that goes from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Sometimes this wrinkle extends to the jawline as what are called the marionette lines. In these areas, as well as wrinkles directly around the mouth, the products serve to fill in the wrinkles. In the mid-face fillers such as Voluma can be used to restore volume loss that occurs with aging. This provides the apple of the cheek and pulls up on the lower face to address wrinkles, sagging, and jowls. Fillers such as Volbella can also be used to fill in hollows under the eyes and to plump the lips.
What is the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex?
The Alastin Restorative Skin Complex is a new topical product that is used for facial rejuvenation. When used with treatments such as Botox and fillers, the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex will enhance the results. It does this through its proprietary TriHex peptide technology, which stimulates the skin to form collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are two proteins in the skin that maintain the youthful appearance by providing structural support and keeping the skin tight. As we age the amounts of collagen and elastin in the skin decrease, leading to signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. When the skin produces its own natural new, fresh, and healthy collagen and elastin the skin becomes tighter and the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines is improved. Additionally, the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex contains other ingredients to volumize the skin, effectively boosting the effects of fillers. The Alastin Restorative Skin Complex also contains potent antioxidants to protect the skin from further damage and to smoothen out the skin tone. When the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex is used, the results of treatments such as Botox and fillers (Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Restylane, and Radiesse) are enhanced. This means better results are seen and patients enjoy their results for a longer period of time. For a limited time we are offering $50 off the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex with purchase of two syringes of fillers.
What is the A E Skin Hydrating Serum?
The A E Skin Hydrating Serum is one of our most popular products. It is like drinking a glass of water for the skin. The A E Skin Hydrating Serum contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in the skin that binds 1,000 times its weight in water. When applied topically to the skin the A E Skin Hydrating Serum draws the water into the skin providing hydration. This helps fill in fine lines on the surface of the skin. Hyaluronic acid is the same ingredient in many fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, and Restylane. When fillers are injected into the deep layers of the skin and the A E Skin Hydrating Serum is applied topically to the skin surface the effects of hydration are increased. This allows for an improvement in the wrinkles and for the results to last longer.
We are proud to carry the A E Skin line of products for our patients. Our skin care products work for just about any type of skin and address multiple concerns. The Brightening Cream is our most popular product, we can't keep it on the shelves. The Brightening Cream has three prescription strength ingredients to treat dark spots and discolorations as well as fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne, and acne scars. The Brightening Cream works well to treat damaged skin and at the same time providing rejuvenation for anti-aging effects. Some people can get dry with this product, which is why many people combine it with the Hydrating Serum. The Hydrating Serum is like drinking a glass of water for your skin. It contains hyaluronic acid, which draws water into the skin and hydrates dry skin while improving fine lines and wrinkles. The Hydrating Serum is used twice a day just before moisturizer. The Triple Antioxidant Serum is another popular product. Vitamins C and E with ferulic acid will boost the sun protection from sunscreen, preventing damage in the form of dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles. Vitamin C also helps stimulate collagen formation, to provide the tight and youthful appearance people want. The Triple Antioxidant Serum works in different ways than the Brightening Cream and together they provide a powerful punch. The Triple Antioxidant Serum is applied in the morning while the Brightening Cream is applied at night. The Exfoliating Serum rounds out the core products in the A E Skin line of products. Containing salicylic acid, it dissolves the glue that holds the dead skin cells together on the skin surface, providing a gently daily exfoliation. A stronger version, the Acne Max Solution, contains 50 % more salicylic acid along with other ingredients targeting acne to help with redness and killing the bacteria in the skin. For best results, the products are used for four to eight weeks prior to treatments such as the Forever Young BBL IPL photofacial treatment, Micro Laser Peel, Soft and Smooth Rejuvenation, Pro Fractional Therapy, Ultimate Rejuvenation, chemical peels, and Ultherapy. The collagen boost from the A E Skin products complements treatments such as Botox, Juvederm, and Voluma. Please see our video testimonials from our satisfied patients. Women who are pregnant or breast feeding should not use the Brightening Cream, Exfoliating Serum, or Acne Max solution. Contact us for a free constulation with Dr. Alex.
