Fillers in the Outer Face

Did you know that fillers can be placed in the outer face? Keep reading to learn more.

What are fillers?

Fillers are products that are injected into your skin to your skin for a variety of purposes. Most commonly fillers are used to fill in fine lines and wrinkles and to restore volume. The most common fillers are made of a sugar called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in your skin and other organs. It works by drawing water into the area to increase the volume.

Why do I need fillers?

Over time your skin changes. You lose collagen, the protein that keeps it firm and tight. As a result, you’ll see loose skin. At the same time, the bony supporting structure changes too. In your face, the structural changes in the cheeks are often the most pronounced. These changes cause the volume in your cheeks to go downward toward your jawline and inward toward your nose and chin. You’ll see volume loss in your outer cheeks, loss of the apple of your cheeks, hollowing under your eyes, and jowls along the jawline. Fillers such as Voluma can be used to restore the volume to counteract these changes that happen as you age.

What is Voluma?

Voluma is a type of dermal filler that uses hyaluronic acid as its active ingredient. The results from Voluma last longer than any other hyaluronic acid filler available in the United States. And the results are very natural, which is what everyone wants. Voluma was first used to restore volume in the upper cheeks. This provides outstanding, natural, and long-lasting results.

Where else can Voluma be used?

Voluma can also be used un other areas. Voluma can be placed in your temples to correct hollowing that occurs over time or with weight loss. Voluma can also be used to correct irregularities in the shape of your nose; this is an advanced area and shouldn’t be done at any office. Voluma can be placed in the jawline for contouring and in the chin to project a weak chin.

One of the least common, yet most rewarding, places to use Voluma is in your outer cheeks. At the edge of your jawline, below your ears, your jawbone turns upward toward your ears to attach to the bones in your mid face. This part of the bone is called the ramus of the jawbone (mandible). When you lose the structure of the ramus over time, it causes your skin and fatty tissues to go down and in toward your chin. You may see what are called jowls, which looks like fat that goes below the jawline and makes you look older. Using Voluma to restore the volume in the ramus will pull everything back, making you looks like you’ve had a lower facelift. The results are so natural that people won’t notice that you did anything. You just look younger. Most people start with one syringe of Voluma on each side and go from there.
