The Effect of Covid and Vaccines on Botox

Have you noticed that the results of your Botox treatment haven’t been lasting as long as they used to? Keep reading to learn more.

What is Botox

Botox is a purified protein used to treat wrinkles caused by facial expressions. These include frown lines between your eyebrows, horizontal forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet around your eyes. Most people see the results of their Botox treatment in a few days and enjoy their results for three to four months.

Covid

The Covid pandemic over the past few years has affected just about everything in our daily lives. Many people have gotten sick and lost or changed jobs. Fortunately, during this time treatments and vaccines have been developed. We have learned that the Covid vaccine can have an effect on fillers. In particular, if you receive a filler treatment within two weeks after a vaccine, your body may have a reaction to the fillers and you’ll see more swelling than normal.

Covid and Botox

But what about Botox? Botox is the most common medical cosmetic treatment in the world because it’s safe, easy, and provides great results. Dr. Alex has found that many patients have not been having the same results as they used to with Botox over the past year or two. This has also been the case with other professionals. People have noticed that they’re not getting the same effect as they used to and their Botox results aren’t lasting as long.

Study and Covid Vaccine and Botox

Recently, there was a small study published that looked into this. They looked at 45 patients and the interval between their Botox treatments before and after receiving the Covid vaccine. The study found that before vaccination, these people were getting a Botox treatment about once every 17 weeks. After getting the vaccine they got Botox treatments about once every 14 weeks.

Why does this happen? It’s not yet understood and there are studies looking into it. We have noticed a lot of things from vaccines over the past two years. Vaccines stimulate your immune system to fight viruses like Covid. This immune stimulation may affect other things too. Even before the Covid pandemic there it was clear that there was a small number of people that slowly became resistant to Botox. This means that their Botox results didn’t last as long and didn’t give them the same effect. This is because some people develop antibodies against Botox due to something in their immune system. Usually, when you change to another brand, you see the results you used to see. Perhaps this is what’s happening with vaccines. It may be stimulating your immune system to develop some sort of resistance to Botox. This is all speculation. Hopefully, with more research we will understand more and be able to make sure people are getting good results from their Botox treatments.
