Full Face Rejuvenation with Fillers

Do you know all of the places where fillers can be used to rejuvenate your face? Keep reading to learn more.

What are fillers?

Fillers are injectable treatments that are used to rejuvenate your face, and can be also used off the face. Botox is the most well-known injectable treatment. Botox is a purified protein used to treat wrinkles caused by facial expressions like the frown lines between your eyebrows. Fillers work differently. The active ingredient in most fillers used nowadays is a sugar called hyaluronic acid, which works by bringing water into the area. This will fill in wrinkles and folds. It’s used for volume loss. One of the most popular uses of fillers is to make your lips fullers.

What fillers are available?

There are many different fillers available in the United States and many more around the world. Most of the ones in the United States use hyaluronic acid as the active ingredient. These include the Juvederm collection, the Restylane collection, Belotero Balance, Revaness Versa, and the newly available Teoxane RHA collection. Juvederm has many products available. The newest ones use a technology called Vycross, which gives natural and long-lasting results, which is the main reason why Dr. Alex exclusively uses these products. Voluma is the firmest one that is best used for restoring volume in bony areas like the upper cheeks. Volbella is the softest and works well for natural looking lips. Vollure is intermediate and is perfect for nasolabial folds or laugh lines. A new product called Volux has recently been approved but is not yet available. It will be like Voluma on steroids. Restylane also has many products that, like the Juvederm products, have different properties and can be used in different areas. Belotero Balance is a very soft filler. There are other Belotero products available overseas, but not in the United States. Revanesse Vera is a medium product that can be used throughout the face. The RHA collection by Teoxane contains four products, called RHA 1 – 4. Sometimes RHA 1 is called Redensity. These were developed by the same person who originally developed the first Juvederm products. Like the other products available from other companies, the various RHA fillers have different properties allowing for different uses in different areas.

There are currently three fillers available in the United States that contain active ingredients other than hyaluronic acid. One is Radiesse, which contains calcium hydroxyappetite. Another is Sculptra, or poly-L-lactic acid. These two work more as what are called biostimulators. Instead of drawing water into your skin like hyaluronic acid, they stimulate your body to create collagen. The last one is Belafil, which is poly methyl methacrylate, the same ingredient in plexiglass. It lasts longer than any other product. The benefit of hyaluronic acid products is that they are reversible in case you don’t like the results or in the extremely unlikely event that it gets into a blood vessel and blocks blood flow. Although this is extremely rare, the consequences can be devastating and include things like permanent blindness. The non-hyaluronic acid products are not reversible, at least to the same degree as hyaluronic acid products so they do not have the same safety margin. This is another reason why Dr. Alex only uses hyaluronic acid products.

Where can fillers be used in the face?

There are many places in the face where fillers can be used. Starting from the top, overseas some fillers are used to restore the curvature of the forehead. This use is not yet approved in the United States and Dr. Alex does not use fillers in the forehead. However, fillers can be placed in the outer eyebrows to give a lift. Voluma is a great product that can be used to fill hollow temples. It’s also great for volumizing the cheeks, to give you the apple of your cheeks back. Voluma can also be used in the outer cheek area in front on your ears. This will help pull back on your skin and lift your lower face. Voluma can also be used in the nose, which is an advanced area. Just a little bit of product can be used in the non-surgical nose job to give a dramatic result. Products such as Voluma, Vollure, and Volbella can all be used to treat hollowing under your eyes with great results. Vollure is also great for nasolabial folds, the lines that go from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth. Sometimes these wrinkles continue from the corners of your mouth to your jawline; these are called marionette lines. Fillers like Volbella are perfect for providing natural-looking and fuller lips without being overdone. Voluma also works well to help project a weak chin and also to define your jawline. When placed in different areas in the face, fillers can provide a very natural but noticeable rejuvenation in your appearance.

One important thing to understand is that when done correctly, fillers provide a natural result. And it’s not uncommon to receive many syringes. The patient in the before and after pictures shown here received 20 syringes of various products over several sessions, and it looks natural. Most people comment that they look more rested and refreshed. Their friends usually cannot tell they had something done because the results are so natural. We are currently offering a buy two get one free promotion on fillers and many people are taking advantage of this.
